What Is Radiesse?
Radiesse is a dermal filler used to add volume to the face to treat facial wrinkles and folds. Radiesse is composed of tiny calcium based microspheres and a water based gel. Allergy testing is not required when being treated with Radiesse, as the calcium microspheres are similar to minerals found in our body. With time, the microspheres and gel are absorbed by the body, leaving behind natural collagen. The Radiesse treatments are done as an outpatient at the Mack Center. Patients have a topical anesthetic applied before the treatment as well as ice packs to improve the comfort of the procedure. The Radiesse treatment typically takes from ten to thirty minutes to perform, depending on the number of vials that are used. In addition to the topical anesthetic and the ice packs, local anesthetics such lidocaine are FDA approved to mix with the Radiesse to make the procedure even more comfortable. Radiesse is composed of a biocompatible material, which has been used for over 20 years in medicine.
Who is a Good Candidate for Radiesse Treatment?
Patients who wish to add volume to their face to improve facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, are great candidates for Radiesse treatment. Patients may have particular concerns with marionette lines, which are lines that run down from the corners from the mouth, and also the pre-jowl area which is the area on either side of the chin where skin can sag due to the loss of facial volume, as well as chin wrinkles which are horizontal lines that can form on the chin.
What are Realistic Expectations with Radiesse Treatment?
Realistic expectations would include the addition of volume to correct areas on the face which have loss volume, such as nasolabial folds, smile lines, marionette lines, corners of the mouth, pre-jowl folds, and chin wrinkles. Patients will notice the improvement immediately upon injection of the Radiesse. It is our goal at the Mack Center to achieve natural aesthetic results with all of our procedures.
What Are Common Reasons why a Patient wants Radiesse?
As we age, our face loses volume, and there is also a shift of volume in various areas of the face. Patients wish to have a more youthful, fuller face. As we age, there are changes that occur because of the loss of subcutaneous tissue, and this is associated with thinning of the dermal layer of the skin. Radiesse is an excellent choice for a facial filler to augment areas of the face where volume has diminished with time.
How Long Does it Take a Patient to Recover Following Radiesse Treatment?
There is very little recovery time following treatment with Radiesse. Typically in the office, we will apply ice packs and monitor the patients for a short time following administration of the Radiesse. The patient is asked to apply ice packs as needed throughout the first day. Patients are allowed to return to work or their normal activities.
Will I Look Natural?
It is our major goal at the Mack Center to have all of our patients to achieve natural results with both procedures and surgery, or a combination of both. It is very important to not have any drastic or unnatural changes in the facial appearance. Radiesse is excellent facial filler, which results in natural, youthful, refreshed results.
