3 SEASONAL SKIN CARE TIPS

It’s winter! Well, sort of. The air is dryer than usual in Tampa and does occasionally get cold for a few days here and there. And the cooler air and lower humidity can have adverse effects on your skin. If you find this to be the case (or if perhaps you’re currently living in a colder climate), check out these three seasonal skin care tips.

Moisturize more.

This tip is really obvious, and yet most of us still stick to our same moisturizing routine when the winter months arrive. Sadly, the moisturizer you love that works exceptionally well in the spring and summer months may not do the job when you get into November and December. When you’re looking for a moisturizer for winter, look for one that’s oil-based, rather than water-based. This will create an extra layer of protection for your skin.

Give your hands a hand.

The skin on your hands is thinner than most parts of the body and has fewer oil glands. We’re also washing them throughout the day, which dries them out, especially in cooler, dry weather. This can lead to itchiness and cracking. When a cold snap does hit, try to remember to put on gloves when you go outside. Also, keep a hand lotion nearby so you can reapply moisturizer during the day.

Use a humidifier.

Humidifiers aren’t something we commonly use in Florida; however, if you find you frequently have dry skin, you may want to consider it as an option, especially during the dryer months of the year. Place small humidifiers around the home to disperse moisture more evenly.
