4 SURPRISING USES FOR BOTOX

In the past, Botox injections were associated with glamorous fashionistas who were trying to maintain their youth. Today, however, this simple cosmetic procedure has gone main stream and the stigma associated with it has worn off. And while it definitely comes in handy when you wake up and notice the sudden appearance of frown lines around your mouth, it actually has a wide variety of uses, many not associated with aesthetics at all.

Overactive Bladder

Botox works miracles for people who suffer from overactive bladder. A single yearly injection will relax the bladder muscle and control the incontinence. Yep, just one injection per year is all it takes!

Migraines

The FDA has actually approved Botox as a treatment for chronic migraines, and it’s not uncommon to see commercials about this particular course of treatment. 12% of Americans suffer from migraines, and yet all it takes is a Botox treatment around the head and neck to alleviate the pain for up to three months.

Psoriasis

Technically this flaky skin condition is insurable; however, thanks to Botox, you can actually minimize the activity of inflammatory cells that causes the outbreaks. According to a Case Western Reserve study, not only was there improvement in inflammation and turnover of skin cells associated with psoriasis after just one injection of Botox, there was also a decrease in the blood calls that carry out responses for the immune system, which are typically seen in large numbers during the early stages of psoriasis lesions. By blocking these signals, Botox could reduce inflammatory cells and improve the appearance of psoriasis.

Depression

Shocking, right? It’s hard to believe that a medication associated with treating skin conditions could actually affect your state of mind, but it’s true. Thousands of Americans suffer from depression. However, doctors have found that injections to the forehead interrupt feedback from the facial muscles to the brain which affects the development of negative emotions. Go figure.

If you suffer from one of these conditions or just want to tackle those annoying frown lines or crow’s feet, we have some great specials on Botox this month. Click here to see all of our April specials.
