5 FEEL GOOD SKIN CARE TIPS

Your skin is a tell-tale indicator of what’s going on in your life. If you’re stressed, eating poorly, or getting insufficient rest, your skin is going to pay the price. Check out these five skin care tips that will not only make you look good but will also make you feel great as well!

Get more sleep.

When people think of the many side effects of poor sleep, skin damage isn’t often at the top of the list. However, a lack of sleep can have a huge impact on your complexion. Most people have experienced sallow skin or puffy eyes after a night of poor sleep, but chronic sleep loss leads to lackluster skin, fine lines and dark circles under the eyes.

Over time, your body releases more of the stress hormone cortisol, which can break down skin collagen that keeps your skin full, smooth and elastic. When you’re not getting enough rest your body also doesn’t have enough time to release human growth hormone, which repairs the normal wear and tear of tissue during the day.

Trust us, sleep offers the kind of results that no facial cream can deliver, so make sure you’re getting enough of it!

Wear sunscreen.

Protecting yourself from sun damage will make you feel much better now (especially when your friends come home from beach trips with a burn) as well as later on. Wear at least SPF 15 or higher to guard against skin cancer and sun damage. We recommend the Colorescience Sunforgettable sunscreen in order to make it easy to apply and reapply throughout the day. (Yes, reapplication IS IMPORTANT!)

Exercise.

If you’re looking for another reason to work out, look no further than you own complexion! We tend to focus on the cardiovascular benefits of physical activity, but anything that promotes healthy circulation also helps keep your skin healthy and vibrant.

Exercise helps nourish skin cells by increasing blood flow, since blood carries oxygen and nutrients to working cells throughout the body. Blood flow also helps carry away waste products, including free radicals, from working cells. You could think of it as cleansing your skin from the inside out.

Exfoliate.

If your complexion looks dull, try giving it a scrub-down to slough off the dead skin cells. Limit this activity to only twice a week to avoid irritation.

Simplify your make-up routine.

One easy way to de-stress your skin, and a way that will actually save you money, is to pare down your makeup routine so your pores can be better exposed to oxygen. Try to limit your routine to just sunscreen, moisturizer, concealer, lip balm and mascara. Again, Sunforgettable Sunscreen can come in handy here since it’s lightly tinted and can provide slight coverage along with sun protection.
