5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PROTECTING YOUR SKIN THIS MONTH

May was technically Skin Cancer Awareness Month. However, with the kids getting out of school, chances are that you’ll be spending a lot of time outside over the next few months. Here are five important things to keep in mind when you’re heading out the door this summer.

  1. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer found in the U.S. today.
  2. You may think you’re only going to be outside for a short time, but it takes as little as 15 minutes of sun exposure to damage your skin.
  3. A rolled up window isn’t going to protect you from the UV rays. You can get a sunburn while driving your car down the road. At the very least, you can do some major damage driving back and forth to work day after day.
  4. Sunscreen may be water resistant, but it is NOT waterproof – there is no such thing! Make sure you reapply frequently if you’re going to be swimming.
  5. People who have fair complexions burn more easily and need to take extra precautions to protect themselves against the sun’s rays.

Stay safe this summer and make sure you’re lathering up every time you head outside!
