What exactly is Kybella?

Are the injections painful?
There is minimal discomfort during the procedure. It involves a series of injections with very small needles, similar to what patients experience with Botox. Some patients experienced a brief mild burning or stinging sensation. Holding a cold gel pack or ice against the skin for a few minutes after the injections will help to minimize any discomfort.
How long does the procedure take?
It is a fast and simple treatment and can be performed in about 30 minutes…even over your lunch break!
What side effects or recovery period should I expect?
The most common side effect is swelling for a few days, which mostly resolves itself over two or three days but can take one or two weeks to fully subside. You may notice mild bruising and patients occasionally experience a mild tingling sensation for a few days.
How long do the results last?
Theoretically the results last forever, since the fat cells are dissolved and are no longer able to store excess fat. Since it is a new product there are still no long term results; however, there have been good results during the three and four year clinical trials.
What if I experience weight gain?
If you do gain weight after your treatment you don’t need to worry. In the trials there were many patients who maintained good results despite weight gain.
How many treatments will I need?
While many patients need two to four treatments, there is really no way of knowing until you sit down and have a discussion with your physician.
