STEM CELLS TO SLOW SKIN AGING? WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN?

There is a stigma associated with the words “stem cells,” and unfortunately a lot of confusion. When stem cells are mentioned, most automatically assume you’re referring to embryotic stem cells. However, this isn’t necessarily the case.

Adult stem cells are undifferentiated cells that are found throughout your body. They are able to multiply and replace other cells as needed to regenerate damaged tissue. It is their ability to self-renew indefinitely which generates interest from researchers, as it would enable them to significantly slow the skin’s aging process.

Some companies are creating products with plant stem cells which they claim help protect the human skin stem cells from damage or stimulate the skin’s own stem cells. Unfortunately, we have not seen any clinical studies that currently prove that human skin responds plant stem cells.

Lifeline Skin Care, on the other hand, uses concentrated peptides, amino acids, and enzymes from human non-embryonic stem cells. The key word here: non-embryonic. These stem cells are not synthetic and they aren’t derived from plant-based materials. Instead, the company uses the same human stem cells that are active early in life to create new, young skin.

The end result?

These human stem cells help replace aged, damaged skin cells with new, healthy skin cells.

So what’s next in stem cell treatments?

Though the treatment is expensive, there is a movement to use one’s own cells for treatment. In other words, the cells used to treat an individual would be taken from that same individual. While the expense would be a deterrent for many, it would also avoid the situation where the cells are rejected by the immune system.
