THE TOP 5 RULES FOR CLEARER SKIN

Summer is in full effect in Florida with hot nights, warm waters, and lightweight clothing. This is also the perfect time to wear a few less layers on your face and let your natural, healthy glow shine through!

Lucky for you, we’ve compiled a few tips and tricks to give you clearer, healthier skin. Check out our five favorite skincare tips below!

  1. Clean off your screens.

No, we’re not talking about the screens the cover your windows…we’re referring to your mobile phone screen. It is easy to overlook, but that phone screen provides the perfect way to transfer bacteria right to your face.

Don’t believe us? Look at it in direct line with the screen off. Chances are you’ll see lots of oily fingerprints, smudges of makeup and who knows what else. Every time you put your phone to your face you are putting all of that bacteria directly in contact with your skin. Not good!

Keep some eyeglass wipes in your purse. They are typically saturated with alcohol and are a simply way to remove that unwelcome bacteria.

  1. Hydrate from the inside out.

Florida temps are HOT and that means you need to be drinking more water than usual, especially if you are participating in any outdoor fitness activities. You should be drinking water throughout the day to aid in healthy digestion and skin function.

  1. Start checking expiration dates.

Just like your phone screens this is also very easy to overlook, but just like you check the expiration date on food in your refrigerator, you should be checking the expiration dates on your makeup. If you don’t bacteria can easily accumulate, especially if you’re storing it in a place with high humidity, like your bathroom.

If the idea of throwing away expensive unused creams and other cosmetics makes you cringe, start buying smaller sizes. You’ll eventually get a feel for how much of each product you’re able to use before it expires.

  1. Exfoliate gently.

While there’s no doubt that exfoliation is an important part of a good skincare routine, over-scrubbing can cause damage to your skin. Stick to a gentle but thorough exfoliation between one and three times per week, depending on the sensitivity of your skin.

Also, make sure to avoid touching your face after you’re done exfoliating (regardless of how smooth and touch-able it may be). This extra touching can transfer acne-causing bacteria to your face and lead to outbreaks.

  1. Take a look in your fridge.

We’re all heard “you are what you eat,” and as cliché as it may be, there’s definitely some truth there! Adding more leafy greens, avocados and omega-3s to your diet promotes skin health.
