WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?

Funny, when many of us think of “chemical peels,” we often think of the botched peel that Samantha received on the popular show Sex and the City in the early 2000s. However, things have changed since then and today you can, truthfully, get a peel on your lunch break and go back to work afterwards.

Many physicians and dermatologists today tend to avoid the deeper peels to minimize the down time the patients will have to undergo. However, the deeper peels also achieve the best results. The alternative to deep peels are superficial peels that will leave your skin looking better and brighter without the tell-tale redness and irritation.

What’s the difference between a superficial peel and a deep peel?

Superficial peels are typically composed of glycoloic or salicylic acids are primarily target the very top layer of the skin. Medium depth peels typically are made of Trichloracetic acid are varying concentrations and targets a deeper layer of the epidermis. Because it goes deeper into the skin, it provides a greater improvement in skin texture and reduction in pigmentation.

Deep peels, on the other hand, are made of phenol, which accesses the deeper layers of the skin. It can work extremely well for treating moderate to severe photo-aging and wrinkles; however, it also requires longer recover times.

We have a number of different options available, from gentle peels to moderate to deep, if you’re looking for a chemical peel in Tampa. We find that superior results are achieved with a series of 6 treatment peels spaced 3-6 weeks apart, depending on skin condition and desired results.
