What Is Latisse?
Latisse is an FDA-approved treatment to make eyelashes longer, darker, and fuller. Latisse is also known as bimatoprost (.03%), and it is a topically applied treatment. Latisse was FDA-approved in 2006 and is a once-daily treatment that requires a prescription from a physician.
Because the natural growth cycle of the eyelashes is about five weeks, Latisse is applied each night for the duration of that cycle. Research suggests that Latisse facilitates the growth of eyelashes by increasing the percentage of hairs during the eyelash-growth phase. Lashes can grow longer, darker, and thicker because Latisse can prolong the growth phase.
How Long Does Latisse Take to Perform?
The application of Latisse to the eyelashes only takes a few minutes and is performed once a day.
How Is Latisse Performed?
Latisse is performed by applying it to the upper lashes with a sterile, single-use applicator. To maintain the effects of the Latisse, which include longer, darker, and fuller eyelashes, continued use of the product is required.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Latisse?
A good candidate for Latisse is a patient who has evidence of hypotrichosis, which means inadequate or not enough lashes.
What Are Realistic Expectations for a Patient Using Latisse?
Once Latisse treatment starts, the patient can see results as early as eight weeks and up to sixteen weeks for full results. The patient will notice longer, darker, and thicker eyelashes. In order to maintain the effects of Latisse, continued use of the product is required. This is a once-a-day treatment that is applied with a sterile single-use disposable applicator.
