Expectations After a Facelift

facelift

When you search for images of a facelift online, you are often presented with the before and after pictures. You see what an individual looks like when they decided to have the procedure done, and you see them after the procedure has taken its full course and the individual is back to living their normal life. But there are not a lot of images of the time after the person gets a facelift but before they are completely recovered.

What Is the Purpose of a Facelift?

The purpose of a facelift is to firm up or tighten the skin on your face and your neck. The goal is to leave you with a more youthful appearance. When properly performed, this procedure will remove many of the wrinkles that you have.

Since this is a surgical procedure, our doctor is going to use bandages to cover over the treated areas, and it is likely that you will have a mixture of gauze and bandages on your head and your neck in the first few weeks after your surgical procedure.

What to Expect from the Recovery Process

Swelling and bruising are a part of the recovery process. If you see that the bruising or swelling is getting worse in the days following your procedure, you shouldn’t worry about it. It means that your body is healing as it should. Even though you had a facelift, you may notice that some of the bruises appear on your neck or on your chest. Again, this is a normal part of the recovery process. Gravity may be pulling some of the blood that your body is producing downward.

Although a facelift is a surgical procedure, the recovery time is fast. Within six weeks, you will likely be back to your everyday activities. By month number four, you are going to see the full results of your surgery.

Our doctor is going to give you a checklist of things that you need to do to care for yourself as you go through the recovery process. It is imperative that you follow these instructions. You are going to feel the best about the recovery process if you are patient and if you have realistic goals. Remember, not everybody recovers at the same rate. You may find yourself recovering faster than or slower than others. However, when the entire procedure has run its course, you are going to have a more youthful appearance.

Do you have other questions about the recovery process after a facelift? If so, the educated professionals at The Mack Cosmetic Center in Tampa would be more than happy to answer any of your questions. Contact us today to schedule your consultation!
