DO YOU USE A TONER REGULARLY?

Okay, so be honest… do you ACTUALLY know what toner does? If the answer is no, then don’t worry: you aren’t alone. Most people DON’T really know what a toner is and many are concerned that using one will just try out their skin. However, the truth is that toner can be a valuable part of your skin care regimen. It prepares your skin for you to apply other products by adjusting the pH of your skin It gives your skin a cool, refreshed feeling It removes the outer layer of oil from your skin, making your skin look clean and clear Now, that said, it […]

SKIN CARE TIPS FOR SENSITIVE SKIN

If you have sensitive skin, chances are you’ve done a lot of research over the years on products that will help you care for it. The best solution, of course, is to speak to your physician (or come to us!) for advice on the best products and skin care regimen for sensitive skin. However, here are a few tips that should help you out in the meantime. What skin care products should I use or not use? As mentioned, it’s best to talk to your doctor first. That said, patients with sensitive skin should, in general, always be using gentle products specifically […]

PROTECT YOUR SKIN DURING FALL SPORTS

School is back in full swing and with it, school sports have begun. In many parts of the country this would mean cool autumn days and jackets. However, in Florida the sun is still shining bright and the days are hot. That means you still need to maintain your summertime skin care regimen… especially if you’re going to be spending more time outside watching football games! Protect your skin. If it isn’t already, sunscreen should be a critical component of your daily routine. We recommend the Colorescience Sunforgettable Sunscreen since it comes with a powder brush that makes it easy to apply and reapply […]

SHOULD I GET A CHEMICAL PEEL?

Sometimes you want to go beyond your normal skin care routine to brighten your complexion. On those occasions, a chemical peel can be a great option. A peel can help transform your skin and give you a more youthful appearance. How do they work? Typically, a solution is applied to the skin that causes it to peel, revealing fresher, healthier-looking skin underneath. Who skin concerns can chemicals peels address? The degree to which a chemical peel can improve the appearance depends on the type and strength of the peel. However, some concerns that peels can address include: Rough, uneven skin Fine lines and wrinkles Sun spots Post inflammatory […]

NEW INJECTABLE TREATMENT FOR THE “DOUBLE CHIN”!

There’s no doubt that we all know – and fear – the double chin. But now, cosmetic surgery is no longer the only solution thanks to a new new FDA-approved treatment for neck fat, called Kybella. In April, 2015, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Kybella (deoxycholic acid), a treatment for adults with moderate-to-severe fat below the chin. Kybella is a non-surgical injectable for reducing moderate to severe fat on the upper neck, commonly referred to as a “double chin.” The injection contains a naturally occurring molecule which eats away at fat. When injected properly, all other cells are left healthy and intact. Is […]

THE MACK CENTER RAISES MONEY FOR TAMPA BOY INJURED IN ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING

It’s been just over a year since Tyler Maddox was accidentally shot. His father worked nights at the post office and when his grandmother heard scrapes outside her door she grabbed her gun and fired a single round, shooting Tyler and blinding him. Tyler has come a long way since that day, however. He uses a walking stick to get around, although doesn’t typically need it at home. He still does many of the activities he enjoyed when he could see, such as playing basketball or throwing around a football. His mother said he plays video games, and sometimes even wins. In recent […]

AUGUST SURVEY NOTES AN INCREASE IN MALE PATIENTS

Dr. Mack poses with the Food Network’s celebrity chef, Robert Irvine, one of our male patients. Male plastic surgery rates have significantly increased since 2000 and the notion that cosmetic procedures are just for women no longer exists. Men are seeking to regain a more youthful look, improve their self-image and feel better about their appearance. An August survey of cosmetic practices from around the country participating in the Real Self Doctors Insights Panel noted a 73% increase in the number of male patients in their practices in the last year alone, with Botox and Fillers being the most common procedures. Of the physicians surveyed, […]

3 SURPRISING FACTS ABOUT FACELIFTS

Three decades ago, Betty Ford told the world she’d had a facelift. Today, years later, the negative stigma associated with cosmetic surgery is finally going away (albeit slowly). BOTOX has become a household name and treatments like Ultherapy are gaining popularity. The good news is that cosmetic surgery is not all about recreating the way we were. For many women, the goal is not necessarily to look younger, but more to look refreshed. The facelift, one of the more invasive cosmetic procedures, is no exception to this goal. A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin, tightening underlying tissues […]

ARE YOU A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A FACELIFT?

Your face is essential for your identity. It reflects your personality and confidence. A wrinkle-free complexion with bright, glowing skin makes you look younger and full of energy and life. However, a “droopy” looking face makes you look tired and unhappy, even when you may feel great inside! While a facelift certainly isn’t for everyone the goal is to help you appear younger, with smoother skin. The best way to find out if you’re a candidate is to come in and have a consultation with Dr. Mack (or another board certified plastic surgeon). That said, there are some factors that can […]

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

If you’ve seen our list of specials for the month of September, you may have noticed that Angela’s pick for the month was Microneedling, otherwise known as skin needling. This minimally invasive procedure involves the use of a device that contains fine needles (very much as it sounds). The needles are used to puncture the skin, creating a controlled skin injury. While it sounds like injuring your skin would be a bad thing, each puncture creates a channel that triggers the body to fill these microscopic wounds by producing new collagen and elastin. Through the process, there is improvement in skin texture and firmness as well […]
