The eyes are the window to the soul. They communicate our thoughts and feelings. However, as we go through life, we expose them to too much sun, especially heading to and from work day after day. Over time, the natural effects of gravity change the skin around our eyes, making it wrinkle and sag. These changes make us look older and more tired.
If you feel like the brightness of your eyes has been dimmed by sagging eyelids, you may be a good candidate for blepharoplasty. It can be performed on the upper or lower eyelid and is the process of removing excess tissue, skin and fat to create a more youthful appearance.
How long does this procedure take?
The upper eyelid blepharoplasty typically takes about thirty minutes, whereas a lower lid blepharoplasty takes anywhere from thirty to forty-five minutes. Because the procedure doesn’t take very long, it is performed as an outpatient procedure with either IV twilight anesthesia or a local anesthetic.
How long does it take to recover?
Once the procedure is complete, ice packs are immediately applied. Applying ice packs to both the upper and lower eyelids in that first forty-eight hours is essential to decrease the bruising and swelling, speeding up the recovery time. Patients who follow the treatment protocol heal very quickly.
