Sculptra
As we age, we lose volume in our face from loss of muscle, fat, and bone, and also our skin loses collagen and elastin. These changes contribute to sagging skin and the formation of wrinkles and folds. Sculptra® targets this underlying volume loss, making it a powerful option for long-term facial rejuvenation.
At The Mack Cosmetic Center in Tampa, FL, we offer Sculptra®, an advanced injectable treatment designed to gradually restore facial volume and soften deep wrinkles. Whether you’re seeking a refreshed appearance or long-term anti-aging support, Sculptra® offers a natural-looking solution tailored to your unique facial anatomy.
What Is Sculptra® Aesthetic?
Sculptra® Aesthetic is a facial injectable which is made from poly-L-lactic acid, which helps to replace lost collagen in the face. Rather than acting as a traditional filler like Juvederm or Restylane, Sculptra® rebuilds your skin’s inner structure over time, restoring lost volume and creating a smoother, more youthful appearance.
Sculptra® is used to correct shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds, such as the deep folds between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds), lines from the corners of the mouth (marionette lines), chin wrinkles, and cheek regions.
How Sculptra® Works
Sculptra® is a biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic material that has been used for decades by physicians. Sculptra® is injected with an average of three injection sessions over a few months.
Sculptra® Aesthetic helps to replace lost collagen, which in turn, will provide a foundation that naturally restores the look of fullness of your face that has been depleted over time. Sculptra® gradually corrects facial wrinkles and folds to result in a youthful rejuvenated appearance that can last more than two years.
Key Benefits of Sculptra®

- Gradually restores facial volume and youthful contours
- Results can last up to two years or more
- Improves skin texture, firmness, and elasticity over time
- Offers subtle, natural-looking rejuvenation

- Low-maintenance treatment with minimal downtime
Who is a Good Candidate for Sculptra® Aesthetic?
Good candidates for Sculptra® treatments are patients who have noticed decreased volume in their face, particularly in the nasolabial folds, cheeks, and chin regions.
What are Realistic Expectations of Sculptra® Aesthetic?
For patients undergoing Sculptra® treatment, realistic expectations would be to achieve increased fullness of the face to reinforce the collagen structure to provide a foundation for a look of fullness. This will address deep facial wrinkles and folds that occur over time.
Consultation
During your consultation at The Mack Center, we take time to assess your facial anatomy, skin quality, and aesthetic goals. We’ll discuss your medical history, areas of concern, and determine whether Sculptra® is the most appropriate treatment based on your needs.
We will create a customized plan that outlines the expected number of sessions, the treatment timeline, and what you can anticipate during and after each visit. Our team ensures that every patient is fully informed and confident before beginning treatment.
Treatment
Before your Sculptra® injections begin, we may apply a topical anesthetic to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. Dr. Mack will then use fine needles or a blunt-tipped microcannula to precisely place Sculptra® into the deep dermal layer of your skin (the layer responsible for collagen production).
Each injection is carefully mapped based on your unique facial structure and the areas where you’ve experienced volume loss. Your treatment session will typically last 30 to 45 minutes, and you can return to most of your usual activities shortly after.
Recovery and Aftercare
Following injection within a few days, the aqueous components of Sculptra® are absorbed and the natural swelling resolves. This will result in a temporary reappearance of the defect that had been treated. At that point, the microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which are the main component of Sculptra®, will begin working in the deep dermis to replace the lost collagen, the skins structures are reinforced, and the collagen framework is achieved to gradually restore volume.
It is important for post-treatment care that patients massage the treated areas. This will result in a more even distribution of the Sculptra®, and will improve the results.
How Long Does it Take a Patient to Recover?
Following treatment with Sculptra®, we ask our patients to apply ice packs and also to massage the areas as directed. Patients can return to work the following day after the treatment with Sculptra®.
What Are the Common Reasons Why One Would Want Sculptra® Aesthetic?
Patients typically present to The Mack Center with concerns regarding loss of volume and aging in their face, particularly nasolabial folds, corners of the mouth, and marionette lines below the mouth. Patients want to achieve fullness or improved volume in their face, but their goal is to receive a natural appearance. This is the emphasis of The Mack Center, which is to provide our patients with a rejuvenated, natural appearance and Sculptra® is the facial filler that will result in this improvement.
Side Effects and Risks of Sculptra®
As with any injectable filler, Sculptra® carries a few potential side effects, most of which are mild and temporary. Bruising is the most common side-effect, which may occur at the injection sites due to tiny blood vessels being affected during the procedure. This bruising typically resolves within a few days and can often be concealed with makeup after the first 24 hours.
Other common side effects include:
- Swelling
- Redness
- Tenderness or soreness at the injection site
- Mild itching or lumps under the skin (which usually soften and disappear with massage)
Though serious complications are extremely rare, risks such as infection, allergic reaction, or vascular occlusion can occur. We take time to review your medical history, including any history of keloids, autoimmune conditions, or active skin concerns, to ensure your treatment is both safe and effective.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sculptra® Aesthetic
Can men benefit from Sculptra® too?
Definitely. In fact, more men are turning to Sculptra® as a way to restore facial definition and counter the volume loss that can cause the face to look tired or aged. It can subtly enhance the jawline, temples, and midface without softening masculine features. Because it doesn’t provide an instant plumping effect, Sculptra® is a discreet option for men seeking a low-maintenance, natural-looking solution to facial aging.
How does age affect my results with Sculptra®?
Your age can influence both the speed of your results and the number of sessions you may need. Younger patients, especially those in their 30s, tend to respond more quickly due to more active collagen production.
In contrast, patients in their 40s, 50s, or older may experience a more gradual transformation, which is still highly effective but can require a longer timeline or additional treatments. However, older patients often notice the most dramatic improvements due to the significant volume restoration Sculptra® provides over time.
How many Sculptra® treatments do you need?
On average, three injection sessions are needed over a period of a few months. The number of injection sessions and the number of injections per session vary from person to person. Unlike most fillers, the results are not immediate but will begin to appear in 4 weeks. The product will last up to 2 years.
How do I prepare for my first session?
Preparation is easy but important. To reduce the chance of bruising, avoid blood-thinning agents like aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, and alcohol for at least three days prior to your appointment (unless contraindicated by your physician).
Arrive with a clean face, and avoid scheduling dental work, vaccines, or other injections within two weeks of your Sculptra® session, as these can increase the risk of swelling or inflammation. We will go over all pre-treatment instructions during your consultation to ensure a smooth experience.
