5 WAYS TO REDUCE WRINKLES

Whether you’re just beginning to show the first signs of aging or whether you have your fair share of wrinkles already, reducing wrinkles is probably on your agenda. While Botox is always an option for reducing the appearance of wrinkles that have already formed, there are a few things you can do in your daily life that will have a big impact on your skin.

Wear sunscreen.

This is hands down the best solution for protecting your skin and reducing wrinkles. While avoiding the sun is obviously the best way to protect your skin from aging, doing that is pretty difficult for us in Florida, where the sun’s rays are so strong. However, applying sunscreen every morning before leaving the house is the next best thing. Chances are that you’re already applying lotion before you head out. Look for a facial lotion that can also double as sunscreen. While it’s not the best solution (that would be applying sunscreen in addition to your lotion), it is an easy alternative for anyone who knows they might forget that extra step.

Get enough sleep.

When you don’t get enough sleep your body produces a hormone that breaks down skin cells. However, when you’re getting plenty of rest, the body is more likely to produce the human growth hormone which helps skin to remain thick and more elastic.

Abstain from smoking.

Smoking releases an enzyme that breaks down collagen and elastin, causing the skin to be more wrinkled. Not to mention that repeatedly pursing the lips to inhale from the cigarette will cause wrinkling around the mouth.

Sleep on your back.

Sleeping on your side or stomach can cause “sleep lines,” wrinkles that become etched into the surface of the skin that don’t disappear when you get up in the morning. People who sleep on their side are more likely to form wrinkles on the cheeks and chin, while people who sleep on their stomachs are more likely to form a furrowed brow.

Eat more fruits and vegetables.

Fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants that fight the damage caused by free radicals. This, in turn, keeps your skin looking younger and more vibrant.

Don’t over-wash your face.

Yes, you want to keep your face clean, but be careful to avoid over-washing it, since the water (especially hot water) will strip your skin of its natural oils. Also, make sure that you’re using a cleanser and not soap, since soap is drying to the skin.
