5 MYTHS ABOUT BOTOX DEBUNKED

We have all encountered a bad Facebook photo from time to time – tagged by a friend who obviously didn’t see how bad it actually was – one that leaves us wishing we had worn sunscreen every day since youth and been bathing in coconut oil.

Fortunately modern technology has taken care of some of our anti-aging pains for us. No, doctors can’t actually turn back the hands of time, but they can perform injections that will reduce the appearance of (or eliminate altogether) those tell-tale lines across our faces.

Unfortunately, injectables like BOTOX have gotten a bit of a bad reputation over the years, even if it IS a household name and one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures today.

People ask themselves:

Will it actually work?

Will I turn into a frightening caricature of myself?

Will my face resemble Chrissy Teigen’s at the 2015 Golden Globes?

There are a lot of myths surrounding BOTOX… and we would like to help clear up five of them right now!

Myth #1: BOTOX turns everyone into emotionless zombies.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. When DONE CORRECTLY, BOTOX will allow you to look natural and still be able to express emotions – especially happiness. What will go away are movements like furrowing of the brow, which make you look angry or unhappy. And hey, that’s not a bad thing. Studies have shown that the fewer negative emotions you display the less unhappiness you will actually feel.

Myth #2: BOTOX and fillers are the same thing.

While both are injectables that help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, they definitely don’t function the same way. BOTOX works by relaxing the muscles that create wrinkles. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, add volume. Fillers, essentially, act as scaffolding that holds your skin up, giving you a more youthful appearance.

Myth #3: BOTOX is toxic to the body.

When administered correctly, BOTOX is as safe as any other drug. It has been FDA-approved as an anti-aging treatment and is one of the most widely administered drugs on the market today.

Myth #4: BOTOX is always obvious.

This could be true… if you’re going to the wrong doctor. If you want to avoid looking unnatural and like you have been “worked on,” it’s important to find  a doctor that you trust. Read reviews, ask to see the results they have had, ask how common the procedure is at their office and ask for qualifications. Remember, this is your face we’re talking about. It’s important to find a doctor who is going to give you the natural results you want!

Myth #5: Once you get BOTOX, you can’t ever stop.

The results from BOTOX aren’t permanent, so it’s possible that you might never WANT to stop. However, once the injections wear off your face will return to looking like it did before the injections. There will definitely be no negative side effects from no longer getting injections.

Have you heard of any other BOTOX myths? Please feel free to share them with us!
