WHAT IS AN IPL TREATMENT?

IPL, which stands for Intense Pulsed Light, is used to to lighten and remove brown spots, redness, age spots, broken blood vessels, and rosacea from the face, neck, chest, hands and other areas of the body. They can also reduce hyper-pigmentation and the  appearance of wrinkles. IPL photo facials also have the lesser effect of improving skin texture by stimulating collagen.

Even though this treatment is noninvasive so convenient that it could be performed over your lunch hour, you will notice a marked difference in your skin over time. The skin will actually continue to improve for weeks after the treatment.

How is this treatment performed?

First, the area that’s going to be treated is cleansed and a cool gel is applied. Dark glasses are worn to protect the patient’s eyes from the light and, with the patient in a comfortable position, the IPL hand piece is applied to the skin and light pulses are emitted.

Does the treatment hurt?

While not particularly painful, patients do feel some stinging similar to a small rubber band being snapped against the skin. An anesthetic cream is applied to the area in advance to reduce the discomfort the patient feels during treatment.

How will I look afterwards?

You may experience a few days of redness after the procedure. Some brown spots may appear darker for a few days and then peel off. However, don’t worry, you can apply makeup immediately after the treatment if necessary to conceal any redness.
